President: Muriel Gordon Mayers
– educated in dance at the School
of American Ballet and at the University of Wisconsin, additional studies
included Graham, Horton, Limon and Cunningham techniques and
choreography with Louis Horst and Doris Humphrey. After a career of
teaching dance, which included Wheaton College,
community organizations and her own dance studio, she changed careers
and is currently president of Kehnle ~ Mayers, Ltd., a company providing accounting
services for estates and trusts.
Vice President: Stephen Douglas Rees, Jr. - was born in Sarasota, Florida.
He attended St. Stephen's Episcopal School and was a member of the
varsity soccer team. After high school, Mr. Rees, Jr. left Sarasota to pursue undergraduate studies at Bates College
in Lewiston, Maine, graduating Cum Laude with a
Bachelor of Arts degree. While at Bates, he was awarded the
Hoffman-Mellon Grant for his contribution to the Maine Vietnam
Veteran's Oral History Project. Mr. Rees, Jr. continued his
studies at the University of Maine School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor. As an active member of the
student body, Mr. Rees, Jr. served as President of the Business Law
Association and member of the Maine Law and Technology Association and
the Native American Law Association. Mr. Rees, Jr. returned to Sarasota as an
attorney with the law firm Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsburg, P.A. in Lakewood Ranch,
representing clients in the areas of real estate, land use and zoning,
code enforcement defense and administrative law.
Secretary: Lisa Frances Manning - from Queens,
New York trained at the Alvin Ailey American
Dance Center,
the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, Nikolais/Louis
Dance Lab, the Limon Institute and the Lester Horton technique with
Milton Myers. She has performed with several International
choreographers in New York, as well as
Deborah Vinton in Sarasota,
Florida. She has recently
performed as a community artist with Fuzion:
Faces of Women and the SalOM – Step
One project. Ms. Manning is currently employed at Coldwell Banker in
the Human Resources department.
Media/Press Committee: Mary Finegold-
from Palo Alto, California
retired dance educator holds a Master's Degree in Education having
taught dance in California, Hawaii, Utah,
and Florida
for thirty-five years. She has written curriculum for Dance
Education for the Sarasota
School District
and conducted workshops for teachers to enable them to use dance as a
tool for teaching academic subjects. A an active
participant in Dance Education projects at the Van Wezel,
she coordinated and choreographed the Van Wezel
production of the Sesame Street Show with Bob McGrath. Having
expertise in Israeli Dance, she was commissioned to choreograph the
original musical, Neighbors, for the Players Theater in 2005. She is
currently an advisor for the International Baccalaureate Dance program
at Riverview
High School.
She keeps active by teaching Israeli Folk Dancing and Western Line
Dancing throughout Sarasota.
Jeane Ware - Director of the Office
of Research Programs and Services at New College
of Florida, the State's Honors College. Since developing
and establishing the office in 2003, she has submitted hundreds of
grant applications and worked closely with faculty, staff and students
to secure external funding for various needs and projects. She
and her staff manage all grant funds to ensure proper compliance with
all federal and state requirements. Additionally, she is the
Human Protections Administrator for the NCF Institutional Review
Board. She processes and reviews applications from students using
human subjects – such as surveys and interviews – in their
thesis work. Finally, she also is the point of contact for those
students wanting to apply for high profile national scholarships such
as Fulbright, Rhodes, Marshall and others and assists the students with
developing and submitting their applications and essays.
Sherman Cooper - Pilobolus Dance Theater Board Emeritus
1954 was a very good year, married, graduated from the University of Connecticut
(Economics and Business) received commission in the Air Force and
served active duty. When discharged eventually became President and
owner of Cooper Fairbank Real Estate and
Development and Fairbank Mortgage company
until retirement in 2000.
My first interest in dance was with Ballet in New
York City during the early 1960's The American Dance
festival was located in Connecticut
in the mid 70's. I was "HOOKED"; after seeing their fantastic
presentations. Thru my friendship with Allison Chase, founder, dancer
and former artistic director of Pilobolus
I was introduced to Pilobolus, Momix, Peter Pucci and
other contemporary dance companies all located in North west
Connecticut.
During the early 1990 I attended improvisation movement/dance classes with
Allison Chase, No talent but had a blast. Also attended three
workshops, each for a full week in Maine. After serving for 15
Years on the board of Pilobolus I recently
retired. I am honored to now be a Trustee Emeritus. (Their second in 35
years).
